PPM 360™: Arbitron Advances Electronic Audience Measurement

Electronic Audience Measurement is about to change with the introduction of Arbitron’s new PPM 360 platform. Arbitron has extended its PPM™ technology to a mobile wireless platform, creating an audience measurement solution to fit consumers’ lifestyles. This new approach lays the foundation for the development of future applications of the proprietary PPM technology on multiple consumer devices.

With the PPM 360 technology on a newly designed meter, Arbitron is poised to offer an easier, sleeker experience for panelists.

Greater Appeal

The most noticeable change is the meter’s sleeker look. Resembling a small cell phone, it fits in better with panelists’ on-the-go lifestyles, especially with the younger 18-34 demographic.

Improved Usability

With the cellular platform, the amount of equipment panelists need to install will decrease and the ease of installation will improve. The new system’s set up will simply be plug and play. The rounded edges will make the meter easier to wear

Communication with panelists will also improve with the new on-device text screen that will allow Arbitron to communicate daily point totals, the panelists’ names and even the time.

Mobile Data Retrieval

This next generation of audience measurement allows Arbitron to more closely follow the consumer wherever their days—or evenings—take them. With its cellular platform, the new meter allows Arbitron to retrieve data from panelists’ meters, regardless of whether they are docked for the night. Panelists are freed from docking and Arbitron is able to retrieve more timely information—anytime and anywhere there is a cellular network.

Future Focused

Arbitron now has greater flexibility to follow the consumer and give media and advertisers the insights they need on their time schedules. The platform in the new meter can grow with emerging technologies to leverage future mobile platforms such as smartphones and netbooks.

This advancement also sets the stage for Arbitron to provide new and innovative services, such as ad campaign exposure and effectiveness, location-based services and on-demand reporting.
